Revo’s Red Hots

Friends of Revolution,

It’s time for me to make some changes.  I’m not able to be at Revolution as much as I’d like these days so I’m looking for creative alternatives to closing the shop.  I’m open to offers to purchase the shop for a modest price; it would be a fabulous opportunity for a collective of artists who would like to run Revolution as a true co-op.  There’s lots of room for expansion, new events and new ideas.  As my recent Oprah reading suggests J, I’m putting my questions and desires out into the universe and am open to any and all feedback, suggestions, ideas, offers, etc.  I’m deeply committed to supporting local arts and to our collective efforts towards changing perspectives about eco art; I know many of you feel the same.  It makes me very sad to think that Revolution may disappear.  Please spread the word and put on your thinking caps!

Cheers,

Mary

New Artists

Sandra Shepard of Bellevue is a fifth grader at Somerset Elementary.  She loves art of all types, but is especially fond of jewelry and sculpting.  We are thrilled to have her unique jewelry here at Revolution.

Revo’s Red Hots

April 22nd is Earth Day and because we’re passionate about green living and recycled materials in art it’s one of our favorite holidays and a great chance to raise awareness and celebrate sustainability, recycling and reuse.  This is a great chance to get a jump on green birthday or holiday gifts or splurge on that something special you’ve had your eye on.

Garden ready Goddesses made with colorful recycled tin, bottle caps, telephone wire, Altoid tins, and more….

Hilariously ironic journals, address books and notepads made from recycled floppy disks.

Contemporary pendants, earrings, cufflinks, magnets, cell charms and key chains made from vintage typewriter keys.

Beautiful hand knit scarves made from yarn spun of recycled silk Nepalese saris.

New Artists

Sabina Popescu of Bellevue creates beautifully delicate necklaces, bracelets and earrings using sterling silver, Swarovski crystal and more.  The perfect amount of sparkle!

Spring is in the air… sort of.  With St Patty’s Day and Easter coming up my spring fever always starts to kick in and I can’t wait for the becoming-less-rare sunny days to get my yard in order and check out my daffodils and crocuses that are starting to show themselves.   Each year I swear that this is the year I’ll weed and edge and mulch.  Wish me luck!

Colorful and quirky birdhouses made with recycled cedar and tin to welcome your returning bird friends.

Hand painted chocolate bars for a truly unique Easter basket.

Hand stamped stone coasters featuring a rascally Irish leprechaun- perfect for your mug o’ green beer!

Beautiful hand dyed and hand knit scarves to complement your Easter finery.

New Artists

Melodie Anderson of Issaquah finds inspiration for her trompe l’oile rock paintings from our native wildlife, in particular, salmon.  She creates amazingly realistic versions of our beloved cohos, sockeyes, chums and more.  Each one is hand painted, one of a kind, and suitable for indoors or out.

Hallie Engel of Des Moines is an amazing artist who has translated her original designs into all manner of wonderful creations.  One of a kind hand painted bird feeders, picture frames, garden art, T-shirts, caps, backpacks, and more.  Very colorful and fun- they make you smile!

New Artists

Barry Roitblat of Bellevue makes truly unique pens from the most unexpected materials (corn cob, snakeskin, pinecone, coconut shell, recycled paper, and jasper to name a few!) and gorgeous bottle stoppers perfect for that special bottle of wine.

Nancy Charlton of Snohomish has taken a new approach to photography.  She carefully selects flowers from local farmers markets and lays them directly on the bed of her scanner.  She’s able to capture an amazingly fresh image and mounts them directly to frameless plaques that are ready to hang.   A modern approach to the traditional art of macro flower photography.

TJ Ravnsborg of Snoqualmie has teamed up with a fair trade artisan organization in South Africa to bring us beautiful handcrafted copper and brass jewelry.  An added bonus she discovered while nursing her son is that these necklaces, bracelets, and earrings are not only beautiful, but extremely sturdy and stand up to the rigors of curious little fingers.

Rebecca Haines of Kirkland has created the “lighten up” purse in response to many women’s concerns about carrying giant purses that put too much strain on their back and shoulders.  She utilizes found and reclaimed fabric samples to create beautifully made purses, luggage tags, luggage handle wraps and my favorite for traveling, the pyramid bag.

Michael Ewanchuk of Redmond works in the high tech industry by day and creates beautiful objects from exotic hardwoods in his spare time.  His balance wine holder is a must see and he’s also brought us some truly exceptional cutting boards, cheeseboards, and wine caddies that are perfect for holiday entertaining.

For some time now I’ve wanted to get a regular newsletter going to let you know about special events, classes, new artists, hot finds, and the new must haves at Revolution.  Each month we’ll spotlight a few red hot featured items with Revo’s Red Hots (working title…).  Artwork changes so frequently and new artists join us regularly so there’s always something new to see.

October in Issaquah is all about the salmon, baby!  In celebration of Salmon Days and the much anticipated return of the salmon, we’ve got salmon inspired art for every area of your life.

New Artists

Jillian Crown of Bellevue makes the most beautiful mosaic earring holders using vintage china and hand made fimo and reclaimed tile.  They are extremely well priced and have been our number one seller this week.

Cindy Hendrickson of Bellevue is a girl after my own heart.  She uses reclaimed typewriter keys to make one-of-a-kind bracelets and monogram pendants.   I’m after her to make us monogram earrings and magnets as well!

Mary Freiburger of Seattle creates beautiful jewelry using semi precious stones, Swarovski crystals, sterling silver accents and distinctive chaining.  When she came to show us her work I commented about the unique chartreuse and turquoise necklace she was wearing and she took it off and added it to the mix.  How’s that for giving someone the necklace off your back- very generous.  Mary will be at Salmon Days this year, here in Issaquah, October  6th and 7th.  Be sure to introduce yourself and check her out in booth #222.

Ellie Elderbroom of Puyallup brings us distinctive semi precious stone jewelry with a Southwestern flair.  She’s brought us beautiful turquoise and coral pieces as well as an absolutely gorgeous obsidian necklace.

Good News!

My husband Terry and I welcomed a budding new artist to the family on Tuesday June 12th at 12:14 pm. Her name is Caris McLeod Carter and she’s a love! She weighed in at 6 lbs 4 oz, 18 ½ inches long and a full head of strawberry blonde hair. We’re all home and healthy and happy. The nights are long and the days are wonderful. She’s a sassy girl and is already putting Mom and Dad through their paces. We love her with wild abandon and hope you all have a chance to meet her soon.

Thanks so much for all your heartfelt wishes and good cheer!

See you soon!

Mary

Artists in Action

Second Saturdays this Summer

Every second Saturday we’ll feature local artists at work on our front porch.  Take advantage of this opportunity to pepper your local artists with all sorts of questions and see how they make their creative dreams a reality.  Artists will be working on current pieces and are happy to share their process with you.  Artists in action bring an undeniable energy to their work and this is a chance to see them up close and personal in their native habitat... kind of like a really cool zoo.
